Cynthia Crane, an RWC Assistant Professor of English, has taken her writing talent to its peak, with a book that took nearly nine years to write.

The book, titled Divided Lives, contains the previously untold stories of Jewish-Christian women in Nazi, Germany. Crane has gone to great lengths to uncover the hidden life stories of ten women, children of Jewish-Christian marriages, whose families were persecuted under Hitler's Third Reich.

Her sensitive recording of the women's oral histories documents the suffering under Hitler. The book has been eliciting very positive responses.

The work is a product of years of interviews, translations, and research. Crane says she was inspired by her grandparents' experience in Nazi Germany. She said her father was beaten daily by a Nazi teacher because he was half Jewish.

It was her grandmother's personal tales that influenced her to tell the stories of others about their courage and struggles. Divided Lives is an insightful and historical book revealing the tortured lives of Jewish-Christians in Nazi Germany. It is a must read.
